Laid Back Mountain Wedding in Montpellier | Sonia + Laurent

I miss summer so much! That’s why I wanted to share with you this amazing laid back mountain wedding I photographed last summer.

Sonia and Laurent wanted an outdoor celebration with a serious dose of casual chic. The entire weekend took place at the Mas des Violettes, a Languedoc style former farm near Hameau de Gourdou, Valflaunès in southern France. Sonia, a theatre producer and dance performer and Laurent, a graphic designer and art director fell in love with its acres of glorious farmland, orchards and breath-taking mountain views and decided to get married there.

I love to photograph this kind of relaxed wedding. An intimate day that reflects the couple and their life together – simple, friendly and warm. Inspired by their venue they chose an artsy, countryside theme with musical influences, for a weekend of relaxation, amazing food and fantastic music.

Sonia and Laurent had an awesome laid back mountain wedding. It was a really fun for them to share this moment with their family and friends before their wedding day. They chose Mas des Violettes because of the location and beautiful view of the Pic Saint-Loup, and all the family were involved in the wedding decoration. It’s a typical Provençal place, surrounded by nature with donkeys playing in the fields, a playground for the kids and the tasteful addition of a romantic gypsy caravan.

The couple’s entrance in the vaulted ceremony room was so relaxed. Hand in hand to the unforgettable sounds of Jeff Buckley’s ‘Hallelujah’. For the reception, they wanted people to meet, talk and share some great moments without being too formal. They opted for a gourmet buffet dinner with unassigned seating so people could feel free to move and dance!

In the evening, Sonia and Laurent took to the floor with their own theatre show to kick off proceedings as Michelle Gurevich’s moody ‘I’ll Be Your Woman’ played. They didn’t have a first dance, more of a little show of their own. They wanted to do something to light up the dancefloor without being too corny. It was a dance creation with music and video projections featuring photos of adventures from their first ten years together! One of the best parts of the weekend was the unforgettable party. The couple created their own disco set, DJing side by side and asking their DJ friends to perform. And what better song to kick off a DJ set with than House of Pain’s ‘Jump Around’ !

Sonia told me that when they decided to get married the first thing that came to her mind was to “be yourself and choose your wedding the way you dream it to be. Without any boundaries or constraints, and build from that. If you don’t want to stay sitting for hours eating; have a buffet and put out only a few tables. You want to dance to good music, so pick a great DJ or build a playlist and ask friends with tastes that match yours to also pick some tunes.”

It was amazing to spend the entire weekend with Sonia & Laurent and their guests, capturing the magical outdoor feast enjoyed by the party the night before the wedding. The emotional ceremony, the cocktail ceremony with the jazz quartet, the escapade with the couple to watch the sunset on the Pic saint Loup, the crazy party, every moment was unforgettable.

Sonia & Laurent in their own words – “Coralie has an eye for capturing rich, emotional and moving moments, spontaneity and real emotions. She was a close but discreet presence for the three days of the wedding. Capturing all the story, from the smallest details to the crazy, spontaneous moments. We will keep a particularly fond memory of our small nature session overlooking the majestic panorama of the Pic St-Loup. This little escapade in a bubble of nature, light, scents and sweetness will leave us a particularly poetic and timeless memory.

“The best day of your life should only be about doing what you feel.”
